Permanent Hair Reduction:
Unwanted and unsightly body and facial hair is something almost everyone struggles with. Many people have tried tweezing waxing and depilatories. Others have chosen tedious and painful electrolysis treatments. If you have been looking for a comfortable, safe and effective way to permanently reduce unwanted hair, you are in luck.
What is involved with the Permanent Hair Reduction Procedure?
A gentle flash of intense light is pulsed over the area treated using the broad band laser. Hair follicles that are in the active growing phase are permanently destroyed so the hair doesn’t grow back. Only about 20% to 30% of the hair is actively growing at any one time. So the procedure is performed in 4-6 week intervals until all of the hair is gone from the area treated. Coarse, dark hair is more quickly eliminated than finer, lighter hair. Research has shown that even lighter, finer hair responds with a few more treatments.
What is the Method?
Using technology similar to medical lasers, broadband laser uses a carefully selected spectrum of intense light to target the melanin pigment in hair follicles. This intense pulsed light is the gold standard for permanent hair reduction because of the excellent results, comfort level and minimal risk of complications.
Dr. Thomas has had special in depth training in the use of these lasers and has utilized this procedure effectively for hundreds of patients. The key to a good outcome with this type of procedure is the education and training of the professional who performs the service.
Will it hurt?
Our patients have found the procedure to be surprisingly comfortable. The hair removal treatment is so quick and easy, the comfort factor has not been an issue. Dr. Thomas chooses to use a more comfortable setting even if it means that he has to retreat an area. He feels that it is worth extra time to allow the patient to have an enjoyable experience.
Will all the hair be removed?
Since hair grows in three phases and hair follicles can only be destroyed in the active growing phase, multiple treatments will be necessary for optimum results. Typically about 20%-30% of the hair will be in the active growing phase at any given time. About 50% -60^ of that active growing hair can be expected to be permanently reduced after each treatment. Therefore, many individuals experience permanent reduction after about 6-10 treatments.
Areas normally treated for unwanted hair are the face, legs and underarms for females. The back, neck, chest and forearms are popular areas for males.
